SHILLONG, June 22: The ongoing spell of the monsoon continues to wreak havoc throughout Meghalaya with landslides and floods claiming nine lives, affecting around 150 villages and causing significant damage to infrastructure projects.
Overnight downpour led to the collapse of a portion of the under-construction PA Sangma Sports Complex in Tura on Thursday.
The same day, a portion of the pavement at the Umiam view point at Ryndangbriew collapsed. The area is frequented by a large number of tourists every day.
Earlier on Wednesday night, a mudslide occurred at Malki posing significant risk to a house atop. Residents of the house were evacuated following the mud slip.
