Shillong, June 25 : In a recent operation carried out in Manipur’s Itham village, security forces were compelled to surrender 12 arrested members of the insurgent group KYKL (Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup), according to the Spear Corps of the Indian Army. The operation was initiated based on specific intelligence inputs.
The Spear Corps took to Twitter to share the details of the operation, explaining that a large mob consisting of approximately 1200-1500 individuals, led by women and a local leader, swiftly encircled the targeted area.
Despite making repeated appeals to the aggressive mob, urging them to allow the security forces to carry out their lawful operation, their efforts proved futile, as stated by the army. Considering the potential risks and casualties that could arise from using kinetic force against such a sizable and hostile mob, especially one led by women, a cautious decision was made to hand over all 12 apprehended cadres to the local leader, the army explained.
Once the cordon was lifted, the security forces withdrew from the area. They also confiscated the weapons and war-like supplies that were seized from the insurgents during the operation.
One of the individuals was identified by the army as self-styled Lieutenant Colonel Moirangthem Tamba, also known as Uttam. He was revealed to be the mastermind behind the 2015 ambush case involving the 6 DOGRA (6th Dogra Regiment).
Concluding the post, the army issued an appeal to the people of Manipur, urging them to support the security forces in maintaining law and order to foster peace and stability. The Twitter post was tagged with the Additional Directorate General of Public Information, IHQ of MoD (Army), and the Eastern Command of the Indian Army, emphasizing the significance of the message.
