Shillong, June 25: After three years since a woman went missing in West Bengal, the state’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has discovered her skeleton in a septic tank. As a result, the woman’s husband has been arrested and charged with her murder.

The woman, identified as Tumpa Mandal, was reported missing in March 2020. Her father, Laxman Halder, lodged a missing complaint with the local police. Following a preliminary investigation, the woman’s husband, Bhombal Mandal, was arrested by the police in April 2020.

However, due to a lack of evidence, he was granted bail by the court, resulting in his release. Seeking a more thorough investigation, the woman’s father approached the Kolkata High Court, which subsequently assigned the case to the West Bengal CID.

Responding to the plea, the CID took over the investigation on June 13, following the high court’s orders. It was during their investigation that the skeletal remains of the missing woman were discovered in a septic tank.

The CID arrested the woman’s husband based on the findings and has charged him with her murder. The case is now under the jurisdiction of the CID, who will continue their probe into the incident.
