Six injured as lightning strikes Ri-Bhoi village

NONGPOH, June 27: A devastating lightning strike in Umsohlait village, Ri-Bhoi, resulted in serious injuries to six individuals and the complete destruction of a residential house on Monday evening.
According to reliable sources, the lightning struck at approximately 3 pm in a locality known as Dong Kimheh, causing severe injuries to six members of a family.
Tragically, the house was reduced to ashes in the aftermath of the lightning strike.
The injured individuals have been identified as Johnsing Lynshing (29), Martha Shadap (55), Driamizaca Shadap (4), Banaibor Lyngdoh (20), Kyrshanborlang Mynsong (11), and Banraplang Khongsam (5). The house belongs to Kristina Mynsong.
It was also reported that three of the victims — Johnsing Lynshing, Driamizaca Shadap and Kyrshanborlang Mynsong — were seriously injured in the incident and were shifted to a hospital in Shillong for treatment.
Prompt medical assistance was provided to the injured, who were initially taken to Mawhati PHC for treatment. However, due to the seriousness of their injuries, they were subsequently transferred to a hospital in Shillong for further medical care.
The lightning strike resulted in the complete destruction of property including assets, with an estimated loss of around Rs 3 lakh, as reported by the village headman.
