Villagers rescue woman from assault in EGH; accused in police net

TURA, June 28: A feud between a man and a woman turned ugly after the former allegedly tried to strangle the latter while taking her in his car.
The incident, as per police sources, took place around 7:30 pm on Tuesday near the picturesque village of Rongbang Dare under Rongsak PS limits in East Garo Hills.
The accused, as per sources, is said to be an accountant with the C&RD Block of Zikzak in South West Garo Hills and is a resident of Damalgre in the same district.
Some of the videos of the incident, which have gone viral on social media, showed that the victim was bound inside the vehicle of the accused. It was after this when she shouted for help, nearby villagers came to her aid and confronted the accused.
The accused, when accosted by the villagers, claimed that the girl had cheated on him and taken things.
It was seen that the girl’s hands and feet were tied with strong cello-tape and she was also choking from the tapes on her mouth.
While the villagers were bringing the woman out of the car, the accused took the opportunity to flee the scene.
It may be mentioned that the accused has been apprehended and has been booked under the charge of attempt to murder.
A cognisable case has also been registered at Williamnagar Women Police Station and the matter is currently under investigation.
