SHILLONG, June 26: At a time when the already poor mobile network connectivity has been further exacerbated in view of the ongoing load-shedding in many parts of Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday held deliberations with the IT & Communications department to improve and provide better mobile network connectivity to the people.
Taking to Twitter, the chief minister informed, “We also discussed the Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) Policy that will pave the way for the State to make interventions to upscale IT-enabled services in the State.”
It is pertinent to note that despite the entry of 5G services in the state capital, internet connectivity in many parts of Shillong is still far from satisfactory.
While there are many areas in Shillong where data services function at a snail’s pace, the situation is otherwise in other states, including Assam.
Due to such challenges, many have opted for optical fibre connections for better internet connectivity, which nowadays mostly remain non-functional when there are power cuts.
Many network service providers have attributed the poor network connectivity in Meghalaya to the dearth of mobile towers as many are reluctant to provide their plots of land for the installation of the same.
