NONGPOH, July 1: The state government has awarded the Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) team of Ri-Bhoi district for its sterling performance in combatting the menace of drugs.
The ANTF received a certificate of commendation from Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma during the recent commemoration of International Day Against Drug Abuse in Shillong. Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and Director General of Police LR Bishnoi were also present.
The ANTF of Ri-Bhoi made some of the highest seizures of drugs along with East Jaintia Hills and East Khasi Hills districts police.
Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police Giri Prasad said the award would inspire the police personnel. He underlined the team’s commitment to the battle against illegal drug trade.
The SP highlighted the ongoing efforts of Ri-Bhoi police and ANTF team to intensify their campaign against drug trafficking within the district and the state. Their primary objective is to eliminate the illegal transportation of drugs to curb drug abuse, he said.
In a statement, the Meghalaya Police said the commendation award not only recognizes the exceptional performance of the Ri-Bhoi ANTF team but also serves as a powerful deterrent to those involved in the illicit drug trade.
“By ensuring the safety and well-being of the community, their commendable efforts contribute to creating a drug-free society, safeguarding both present and future generations from the perils of substance addiction,” the statement said.
“The Meghalaya Police, in collaboration with the Ri-Bhoi ANTF team, remains dedicated to its vision of eradicating the drug menace from society.  Through relentless efforts and unwavering commitment, they aim to build a safer and more secure future, free from the clutches of drug abuse,” the statement further said.
As the fight against drugs continues, the Meghalaya government encourages collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the community to create a united front against the drug trade, thereby ensuring the welfare of all citizens, it added.
