IIM Shillong, Nagaland govt join hands to enhance higher education, skill devp

SHILLONG, July 1: The IIM Shillong has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Nagaland in a bid to improve higher education and skill development in the Northeast.
According to a statement here, the initiative aims to facilitate capacity-building programmes for faculty members and officials working under the Department of Higher & Technical Education of the Government of Nagaland.
Under the terms of the MoU, IIM Shillong will assume the role of a Knowledge Partner, providing extensive support in research, policy development, analysis, impact studies, and identifying and recommending necessary interventions. The institute will act as an in-house consultant, offering its expertise in project development and policy formulation.
One of the key objectives of this partnership is also the formulation of institutional development plans for state-run higher education institutions in Nagaland.
“Additionally, IIM Shillong will play a crucial role in the implementation of the New Education Policy 2020, ensuring that its principles and objectives are effectively integrated into Nagaland’s education system. As experts in the field, the institute will provide guidance and support to ensure the policy’s successful implementation in both its content and spirit,” a statement in this regard said.
Furthermore, IIM Shillong will leverage its expertise to assist the Government of Nagaland in establishing a state-of-the-art engineering college.
Meanwhile, Nagaland Minister TemjenImna Along has expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration between the IIM Shillong and the Government of Nagaland.
Praising the expertise and knowledge base of IIM Shillong, he emphasised that the collaboration will revolutionise the higher education spectrum in Nagaland.
Referring to the National Education Policy 2020, he said, “The NEP is designed to bring out the best in students, providing them with a holistic and comprehensive education. Recognising the potential and transformative impact of this partnership, the government will provide full support and cooperation to ensure its success.”
Meanwhile, IIM Shillong Director Prof. DP Goyal, while highlighting the institute’s outreach efforts, acknowledged the immense responsibility of the IIM Shillong towards the Northeast and its commitment to reach out to all states in the region.
Meanwhile, Director of Higher Education, Nagaland, emphasised the importance of aligning with the NEP 2020 and said that the MoU will facilitate its successful implementation in Nagaland.
