CM says market dynamics dictate price of essential commodities

SHILLONG, July 3: Amid soaring prices of essential commodities, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said that the rise in prices depends on market dynamics while adding that the state government can only ensure supply of all essential commodities.
He added that the government is on the job to ensure that there is supply of all essential commodities in the state.
Stating that supply is the main reason for the skyrocketing prices, Conrad said that most of the prices are decided by market forces
It may be mentioned that prices of vegetables and fruits has skyrocketed in the country including Meghalaya.
It is said that the surge in prices in Shillong city particularly is due to the floods in Assam which have resulted in lesser stocks reaching the wholesale markets at a significantly higher cost.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma also said that the state government will support people with electric vehicles to run taxi services, especially in tourist areas.
He said that the state government is encouraging people to use electric vehicles.
