SHILLONG, July 3: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who left for New Delhi on Monday, is likely to meet Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and discuss the issue of transfer of land from civil areas of Shillong Cantonment Board to Shillong Municipal Board.
The Ministry of Defence has constituted a committee to propose modalities for the exclusion of civil areas from Shillong Cantonment Board’s purview.
Sangma will also meet Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan to discuss the issue of the setting up of Common University Entrance Test (CUET) centres in Meghalaya.
In the recently-held CUET, many students from the state were allocated centres in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam Sangma will accompany Sangma in the meeting with Pradhan.
The CM said he would also meet the chairman of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and discuss issues relating to the power sector.
“We have some plans with them (NTPC) to look at power plants in Meghalaya, the details of which cannot be divulged at this juncture,” Sangma said. During his stay in the national capital, he will also meet the officials of the International Solar Alliance besides holding a discussion with Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on issues relating to the unity mall project in Meghalaya.
