SHILLONG, July 3: Members of the Meghalaya Upper Primary School Association (MUPSTA) on Monday reminded Education Minister Rakkam Sangma about the pending upgrade of 844 ad hoc primary schools to the deficit system.
Giving out the details of their meeting with the Education Minister, MUPSTA president Kenneth Shadap said, “I told the education minister that this was the intention of MDA 1 government but will it be fulfilled by MDA 2? He said he would examine the matter properly and would see if it is possible.”
“I am not blaming the government but due to COVID-19 and the financial crisis of MDA 1, the government could not fulfill the demand,” he added.
Stating that the government is most likely to take a long time to examine the demand, Shadap suggested that the government should, in the meantime, provide the proposed increment to ad hoc teachers, which he added, is also pending.
“We have requested for the time being that let us get that benefit of Rs 3,000 increment with effect from last year as it was done to secondary and higher secondary as upgradation will take time to examine,” he said.
