SHILLONG, July 4: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Movement (HNYM) has given a seven-day deadline to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council to direct the Hima Mylliem to issue directives to all self-proclaimed Garo headmen of villages under Raid Marwet in Ri-Bhoi to surrender their official seal and letterheads which they use illegally to sell land to people from outside.
“How can Garos function as headmen since this is against the customary practices and tradition of the Himas and violates the KHADC laws,” HYNM president, Louis Dohtdong told reporters after meeting KHADC CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem on Tuesday.
He said the council should take over the administration of the Hima Mylliem if it fails to issue the directives to the Garo headmen.
The KHADC CEM assured that the council will conduct an inquiry and at the same issue a show cause notice to the Syiem of Raid Marwet, Kensing Syiem.
“I will hand over this matter to Deputy CEM, PN Syiem since he is in-charge of Elaka Administration before initiating a probe,” the KHADC CEM said.
