Drug trafficker shot in leg while trying to escape police custody in Assam

Shillong, July 6: In Karbi Anglong district, a drug trafficker was shot in the leg as he attempted to flee from police custody, according to officials.

The Superintendent of Police, Sanjib Kumar Saikia, stated, “We apprehended Shahid Hussain in Laharijan area on Wednesday. He was found in possession of an illegal narcotics consignment. However, he tried to escape from police custody by jumping out of the vehicle, and in order to stop him, he had to be shot in the leg.”

Hussain was arrested with approximately 1.17 kg of heroin, concealed in 94 soap boxes inside a vehicle.

“The estimated market value of the seized drugs is around six to seven crore rupees,” added the officer.

During the operation, the police also apprehended Ashadul Rahman, an accomplice of Hussain.

Both individuals were subsequently taken to Diphu for further questioning, and a case was registered against them.

In separate operations conducted in Karimganj district, the police seized a total of 10,000 Yaba tablets and approximately 12.5 kg of Ganja on Wednesday.

“A total of four individuals were arrested on charges of drug peddling,” stated a senior police officer.
