Meghalaya kickboxers make it big at WAKO India C’ships

SHILLONG, July 8: Young kickboxers representing the state won 5 medals at the WAKO India National Seniors Masters Kickboxing Championships, which was held at Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar in Punjab held from the 1st of July till the 5th of July 2023.
Teimiki Sungoh hailing from Shangpung Mission West Jaiñtia Hills District won a Gold medal in the event full contact below 57 kg category. He has won the title twice in the national level.
Sweety kumari Thakur also from hangpung Moowsyiem won a gold medal in the event Kick Light below 40 kgs category.
Anjelin Ïakai a resident of Shangpung Khliehmushut won a silver medal in the event light contact women below 51 kgs category. Banisha Suiam resident of Shangpung Pohshnong won a silver medal in the light contact below 55 kgs category for women.
Kynsaibor Wahlang from Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills District won a bronze medal in the full contact below 51 kgs category.He won a medal in his first appearence at the national level.
Shaiborlang Lyngdoh Mawphlang one of the youngest referees in the tournament got through with the Grade C Refree Certificate.Senior kickboxer Mordekai S. Kharpuri led the team as the head coach.
