Multiple debit card scam in Tura; two held

TURA, July 8: Police on Saturday afternoon caught the sniff of a man using the ATM Kiosk with different ATM cards in Tura through the general public.
Accordingly, a team from Phulbari police station was deployed, which subsequently apprehended the person.
He was identified as one Lotiful Islam of Tumni, South Salmara, Assam.
From his possession, police recovered 44 HDFC Bank ATM cards along with as many open HDFC ATM envelopes, besides one IPPB and SBI ATM card each, an SBI and an IPPB passbook, two mobile phones, a scooty (AS-18H-7723) and Rs 10,290 in cash.
After inquiry, it was learnt that the apprehended person works for the Assistant Branch Post Master of Tumni Post Office,  South Salamara, Assam, named Ashraful Islam, a resident of Baro Ravatary, South Salmara, Assam.
Later, Ashraful Islam appeared at Phulbari PS and stated that the work of the Post Master is done by him and he further deputed his work to Lotiful Islam, illegally.
It is suspected that they opened the ATM card envelopes of the customers illegally without any authority and withdrew the money using the PIN.
All the recovered items were duly seized and both persons arrested.
