NONGSTOIN, July 9: The KSU West Khasi Hills District Unit on Sunday met Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh and urged him to set up a de-addiction centre in West Khasi Hills.
The union handed over a memorandum to the minister.
It pointed out that drug addicts who come from financially backward families will benefit the most out of this initiative.
The minister agreed to look into the matter.
Speaking to media persons, KSU WKHD president John Fisher Nongsiang flagged the menace of drug addiction among the youths calling it a pressing issue in the community.
“It is known that substance abuse affects individuals from all walks of life, but those from economically backward families often face even greater challenges in seeking recovery and support. These individuals tend to lack the resources and means to access effective rehabilitation and treatment options, leaving them trapped in a cycle of addiction and despair,” Fisher said.
