4 held with 155 kg of cannabis in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, July 9: In a major drug bust, Excise officials seized 155 kilograms of cannabis and 61 grams of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), a synthetic drug from a vehicle and house at Pallithura here on Sunday and arrested four men who are accused of bringing the narcotics to Kerala from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The drugs were seized while the culprits were unloading the narcotics from their vehicle into their rented accommodation at Nehru Junction in Pallithura area of the state capital, an Excise officer said. Giving details of the case, the officer said all the four accused went to Visakhapatnam by road to buy the drugs and after that two of them returned by air while the remaining two brought the drugs back by road in their vehicle. Sanitisation for Amarnath Yatra

Jammu, July 9: The CRPF is carrying out an anti-sabotage and sanitisation operation in and around the Bhagwati Nagar Amarnath Yatra base camp here to ensure the safety and security of the pilgrims camping there due to inclement weather, officials said. Assisted by sniffer dogs, metal detectors and surveillance equipment, the CPRF units conducted an extensive sanitisation exercise in the parking area and the roads leading to the base camp, the officials said. The yatra has been suspended for the second day on Sunday due to heavy rains, they said. Fresh batches of pilgrims were not allowed to leave Jammu due to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. (PTI)

 

Two tiger cubs born at Sariska

Jaipur, July 9: The number of big cats in Rajasthan’s Sariska Tiger Reserve (STR) has increased to 30 with the birth of two cubs. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday shared a photo of a camera trap of a tigress with the newborn cubs. “The good news of the birth of two cubs was received from Sariska Tiger Reserve. Now the number of tigers in Sariska Tiger Reserve has increased to 30,” Gehlot said. He added, “The state government is committed to the conservation of tigers which are important for the environment.” Forest department sources said the tigress, ST-19, gave birth to two cubs and the cubs appear to be 3-4 months old. (PTI)
