SHILLONG, July 11: After meeting aggrieved farmers, Agriculture Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday said that the state’s farmers must be isolated and insulated from taxing.
Lyngdoh had met the farmers earlier, who lamented that too many authorities were collecting different kinds of taxes from them.
Such taxes are harming the farmers economically, she said, adding that there has to be an inter-departmental meeting to sort out the issues.
Assuring them that the matter will be taken up at the highest level, the minister asked farmers to write complaints to the government.
