JOWAI, July 13: A large crowd from Karbi Anglong allegedly escorted by armed Assam Police personnel encroached into the Lapangap village in West Jaintia Hills bordering Assam and destroyed saplings planted by locals in the village.
In this regard, the KSU Lapangap Unit, on Thursday, wrote to the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills.
Lapangap villagers planted over 20,000 saplings as part of a plantation programme under the scheme from Meghalaya Basin Development Authority, Jowai, the KSU claimed. The union has asked the district administration to thwart further encroachment into Lapangap village territory.
