WGH police foil cattle smuggling bid

TURA, July 14: Police in West Garo Hills have foiled a cattle smuggling bid to Bangladesh after 3 pick-up trucks with 18 buffaloes were seized during a naka checking on Thursday.
According to police, credible information was received at Phulbari PS that a large number of buffalo calves are being transported illegally from Patharkata to Hallidayganj for the purpose of getting smuggled to neighbouring Bangladesh.
In a prompt response, a team from Phulbari PS placed naka at Phulbari on AMPT road, and successfully intercepted the three pick-up trucks with the livestock.
“The vehicles and buffalos were seized along with cattle vouchers and one unfilled fitness certificate. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the identity of the smugglers and a case has been registered,” police informed.
According to police, a total of 50 cattle which were being smuggled to Bangladesh have been intercepted so far.
Church elders meet Prestone Tynsong

Shillong, July 14: The elders of the Nongthymmai Presbyterian Church in Umsning along with former MLA, Jason Sawkmie Mawlong on Friday met Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong to discuss the annual Synod meeting to be hosted by the church from March 14 to 17 next year.
The delegation has urged upon the Deputy Chief Minister during the meeting to undertake the repair works of the roads leading to the village, besides providing electricity connection.
They also sought for uninterrupted potable water supply.
The church elders said that they were happy with the assurance given by the Deputy Chief Minister of asking the engineers to prepare the estimates and to start the repair work of the road.
NABARD observes 42nd foundation day

NONGSTOIN, July 14: The National Bank for Agricultural & Rural Development (NABARD) celebrated its 42nd foundation day on Friday at NEIPS Head Quarter, Nongstion falling under West Khasi Hills District.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “Achievement @75: Transforming Lives’ and NABARD contribution in Meghalaya.”
The programme was attended by W Mawsor, ex-MLA of Mawshynrut as Chief Guest in the presence of i B Sun, Michael Thongni, CEO, NeIPS, District Horticulture Officer, General Manager DCIC Director RESTI,MRB Branch Manager, Labour officer, DDUGKY.
Speaking on the occasion Philakyntiew Nongkynrih, District Development Manager, NABARD highlighted the bank’s contribution in West Khasi Hills and Eastern West Khasi Hills district through different development interventions undertaken along with its channel partners and government departments.
She thanked all government departments and the channel partners for their collaboration in fostering Rural Development in Meghalaya.
