SHILLONG, July 14: Residents of the city will get a temporary relief from power cuts, with the MeECL deciding to impose load-shedding for only four hours from Saturday.
An MeECL official told The Shillong Times on Friday that as of now, Shillong is witnessing load-shedding for five hours every day and it would be further reduced by one hour from Saturday as the water level in Umiam has reached its maximum level.
The water level at Umiam on Friday was 3205.75 feet.
A notification issued by the Ri-Bhoi deputy commissioner on Friday said the water from Umiam Dam might be released any time in case there is further rise in water level in the reservoir above the safe level.
However, residents might have to wait for some more weeks for the power cuts to end completely. Though the state is generating sufficient power, it has to swap around 450 million units of power to certain utilities which had bailed out Meghalaya during the crisis period by making power available to the state.
The official said the process of power swapping may continue till September.
Till recently, Shillong and Tura were facing power cuts for 8 hours while other parts of the state were witnessing load-shedding for 10 hours.
