IIM Shillong kicks off 15-day Artist Residency Programme
SHILLONG, July 16: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong inaugurated its ‘Artists Residency Program’ at its Umsawli campus. The programme, which will start from Monday and continue till July 16, will host 10 accomplished artists from various institutions across the country. These artists will have the opportunity to live alongside the MBA students of the 2023 batch, immersing themselves in an environment filled with hope, aspirations, expectations, and excitement. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Director of IIM Shillong, Prof DP Goyal, Chair of Student Affairs Prof. Rohit Dwivedi and the highly regarded Curator of the Artist-Residency Program, Samindranath Majumdar. The entire IIM Shillong fraternity eagerly gathered to witness the occasion. The inauguration ceremony provided a glimpse into the potential that the ‘Artists Residency Program’ holds, promising a vibrant and creative environment for both the artists and the MBA students. Discussions during the ceremony primarily revolved around the ‘Significance of art in our lives and its profound impact on our perspectives of the world’. IIM Shillong Director Prof Goyal emphasised on how art breathes life into objects and creates powerful experiences that resonate with individuals. The curator of the programme, Samindranath Majumdar, and Rohit Dwivedi addressed the students, stressing the importance of engaging with art through reading and developing an appreciation for aesthetics. The event was conducted by Zeitgeist, the art, literary, quizzing, debating, and activities club of IIM Shillong.
NGO to conduct edn survey among Muslims in state; students feted
SHILLONG, July 16: In a bid to contribute to the Muslim community, a survey to find out the percentage of school dropouts and literacy rate among the community in the state will be conducted by NGO Seng Bhalang Islam. This information was shared during the felicitation of meritorious students in the SSLC and HSSLC examinations here on Sunday. As many as 19 students were felicitated by the Education cell of the NGO. In his address, Principal of Shillong Law College, Dr Sharif Uddin, cited the words in Quran to lay emphasis on knowledge and education, while stating that the community must give importance to both Islamic and modern education. South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai, who was also present on the occasion, congratulated the Seng Bhalang Islam for their initiative. Shullai used Laban as an example to explain unity and harmony stating that different communities celebrate their festivals harmoniously in the area. Former Imam of Police Bazar mosque and member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Maulana Bilal Uddin, advised against indulgence in any form of racism against any community.
Officers’ body elects new leaders
TURA, July 16: The All Meghalaya District Ministerial Officers’ Association, Garo Hills Zone has elected new office-bearers. The association elected Bikatho ch Sangma as president, Apurba Barman and Balwan R Marak as vice presidents, Killingstone N Sangma as secretary, Annie Salme N Marak as joint secretary, Helvy A Sangma as organising secretary, Catherine D Marak as treasurer and Isilda G Momin as accountant besides 20 other executive members and four advisers.
