SHILLONG, July 17: Foreseeing a boost to connectivity, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the Mairang-Rani Godown road in Eastern West Khasi Hills will provide multiple benefits and economic opportunities for the people of the region.
After visiting the road on Monday, Conrad said that the road in question leads to Guwahati in Assam as well as the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport or the Guwahati airport. “We cannot develop the concept of the satellite city where we will create zones since this road has proximity to Guwahati. Road connectivity is a precursor to any kind of development to come,” Sangma said.
Meanwhile, he recalled that when he was the Leader of Opposition in 2010-11, he had urged the then dispensation to develop the Mairang-Rani Godown road emphasising the need for an alternative connection to Guwahati.
“In 2018, when our government was formed, we had taken up the construction and improvement of this road. I am happy to see that the road is finally complete since this was also promise given to the people during the elections,” the CM added.
