Bangladesh reports highest daily dengue deaths, bringing toll to 127

Shillong, July 19: Bangladesh has experienced the highest number of dengue-related deaths in a single day, with health authorities reporting a total of 127 fatalities due to the disease since January this year.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in the past 24 hours, the country recorded 13 deaths attributed to dengue, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

During the same period, Bangladesh also registered 1,533 new confirmed dengue cases, bringing this month’s total tally to 16,022.

Since the beginning of the year, the DGHS has recorded a total of 24,000 dengue cases, with 18,304 patients having successfully recovered.

Notably, Bangladesh experienced a significant outbreak of dengue in 2022, with 281 recorded deaths, the highest on record since 179 fatalities were reported in 2019.

Dengue fever is a viral disease transmitted through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes, causing an acute illness that typically manifests with symptoms such as headache, high fever, exhaustion, severe muscle and joint pain, swollen glands, vomiting, and rash.
