Shillong, July 19: In the midst of soaring tomato prices nationwide, a social media user took to Twitter to share a unique gift sent by her sister, who resides in Dubai, to their mother in India—a shipment of 10 kilograms of tomatoes.

Over the past few weeks, tomato prices have skyrocketed, reaching as high as Rs 300 per kilogram in certain regions. As this price surge burdens consumers, many have resorted to unconventional methods to obtain this essential kitchen ingredient.

According to reports in an instance, a daughter living in Dubai asked her mother in India if there was anything she desired from the bustling city. Surprisingly, her mother requested 10 kilograms of tomatoes.

The Twitter user, known as ‘Revs,’ shared this anecdote on the microblogging platform, stating, “My sister is returning to India from Dubai to spend her children’s summer holidays, and she asked my mom if she wanted anything from Dubai. Astonishingly, my mother requested 10 kilograms of tomatoes. Consequently, my sister carefully packed these tomatoes in Pearlpet storage jars, securely stored them in her suitcase, and sent them to India.”

In a subsequent tweet, Revs mentioned that her sister took extra care to preserve the tomatoes and utilized storage jars, ensuring their safe transportation to India.

“Our family consumes an enormous quantity of tomatoes, so my mother plans to prepare tomato pickle, tomato chutney, and reserve some for me,” the Twitter user enthusiastically shared.
