Mawkyrwat, July 21: The KSU, Warsan Lyngdoh circle on Friday demanded the chief engineer PWD (Standard) to retender the Pyndeng Umjarain–Mawphanrang road project in South West Khasi Hills after the contractor tasked with the construction of the road abandoned the work leaving it incomplete for many years.
The union reminded that the government had sanction Rs 289.10 lakhs for construction of 5 km road and Rs 26.40 lakhs for maintenance of the road.
Union president Donbor Marshra told Chief Engineer PWD, Donlang Mawroh that the area was one of the most backward areas in the state. However, the coming of the road project has made the residents happy as they will get a motorable road, but unfortunately the contractor besides discontented construction in some parts of the road, has now abandoned the construction work leaving the people in agony.
The union urged upon the PWD to retender the Pyndeng Umjarain – Mawphanrang road and the project be given to the contractor who has the capacity to finish the work, adding that the chief engineer has promised to retender the road project where the process will be completed by August 2023.
“The chief engineer had also promised to take the matter seriously to ensure that the road should be completed on time,” the union president said.
