SHILLONG, July 25: Meghalaya Police is seeking assistance from their Assam counterpart to nab the kingpins involved in the illegal coal mining and coke plant operations in the state.
Director-General of Police, Lajja Ram Bishnoi on Tuesday said that during the course of the investigation, several names of kingpins have emerged and after their addresses were ascertained they were found to be from outside Meghalaya.
The DGP said he has written to his counterpart in Assam with the details of the kingpins.
A Meghalaya Police team is stationed in Guwahati for the last 15-20 days and is conducting raids with the help of Assam Police.
“Unfortunately, none of them have been found at their residential places. Most probably they have changed their numbers and have fled Assam. It will take time but we are after them,” he said.
