SHILLONG, July 25: The academic council of the North-Eastern Hill University does not have the mandate to decide on implementation of the National Education Policy, 2020.
Addressing media persons at IIM Shillong on Tuesday, NEHU professor and member of the NEP 2020 implementation Committee of NEHU, Prof Ghanshyam Bez said that the executive council has delegated its power to the Vice Chancellor to decide on NEP implementation.
He further stated that the academic council does not have the resources to reach out to the state government or the different affiliated colleges to hold a discussion on whether it is possible to implement the NEP.
Prof Bez said they had held a series of meetings with the state government and the principal’s council to discuss this matter and it was on the basis of those feedbacks that a decision on implementation of the NEP was taken.
He further claimed that the students in the state are losing out since the university is still implementing eight-paper Honours subjects while other universities have already begun implementing 16-paper Honours courses.
