Villagers from Langpih sector willing to remain with M’laya

NONGSTOIN, July 26: Amidst the ongoing second phase of border talks, a resolution has expressed the willingness of all Khasi and Garo villagers in Langpih sector along the interstate border to remain with Meghalaya.
In this regard, the resolution was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills by the Hima Nongmynsaw Syiemship led by Acting Chief of Hima Nongmynsaw, Phlowing Syiem, on Wednesday.
It was signed by the Acting Chief of the Hima as well as by the heads of all the villages in Langpih sector.
The resolution has been dubbed as a significant development in the border dispute between Assam and Meghalaya. It is likely to strengthen Meghalaya’s case in the second phase of the border talks.
The border dispute between Assam and Meghalaya in Langpih sector has persisted for decades.
The two states have been unable to agree on the exact location of the border.
The dispute has on some occasions even led to violence and tension in the area.
