Shillong, July 31: Indian and South Asian families residing in various towns across Massachusetts, USA, have been increasingly targeted by thieves for their valuable jewelry, as reported by CBS News.

The law enforcement, including the FBI, is investigating the robbery cases in towns such as Billerica, Natick, Weston, Wellesley, Easton, and North Attleboro.

As per IANS, the thieves are said to engage in “opportunity crimes,” specifically targeting homes whose owners are away for a period of time. The criminals observe and monitor the homeowners, sometimes even tracking their whereabouts through social media. Jewelry and valuables are stolen, leaving behind few traces of the crime.

The community has expressed concern and urged the authorities to take appropriate action to protect them from further robberies. Similar incidents have been reported in other states, with thieves targeting Asian American communities for their jewelry and valuables, leading to increased vigilance and security measures.
