SHILLONG, July 31: The Bagli Exporters Association has asked the Superintendent of Customs of Borsora Land Customs Station (LCS) in South West Khasi Hills to allow resumption of smooth operation of trade at Bagli LCS.
In a letter, the association said that they have unanimously decided to resume exports from August 2, while adding that the concerned departments of Meghalaya government have been communicated in this regard.
According to it, complaints have been received from Tahirpur, Sunamganj district in Bangladesh with regard to non-completion of Letter of Credit (LC) by some of the exporters from Bagli due to abrupt closure of export. “Hence, under the circumstances, it has become incumbent to reopen exports as huge losses are being incurred by not only the exporters and the people residing at adjoining areas of Bagli but adversely affecting the revenue of the state and central governments as well,” the association said, adding that major investments have already been made by the mining holders and exporters without any return till date.
