SHILLONG, July 31: The Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA) is going ahead with its non-cooperation movement on Tuesday to oppose the move of the North-Eastern Hill University to implement the National Education Policy, 2020.
MCTA general secretary Airpeace W. Rani told The Shillong Times on Monday that they have started their ground work for the non-cooperation movement since Sunday by circulating notifications and circulars to all the college teachers to boycott the first semester classes.
He said the various units of the MCTA from across the state have held meetings with the principals of their respective colleges and briefed them on the issue at hand.
“We have got an overwhelming support from the college teachers who are members of the association,” the MTCA general secretary said.
Replying to a query, Rani said that the teachers will not be taking any classes under the four-year under graduate programme based on the NEP, 2020.
“We will also not accept any assignments sent by NEHU related to implementation of the NEP,” he said.
Rani also said that they are not going to hold any black flag or other kinds of protest in the first phase of the non-cooperation movement.
On Sunday, the MCTA had called upon all its members to boycott the first semester classes from Tuesday until further notice. The boycott, however, would not apply to third and fifth semester classes, the association had said.
The MCTA had taken this decision on Saturday to protest the “illegitimate decision” of NEHU Vice Chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla to push through the implementation of NEP 2020 by “disrespecting appropriate processes”.
The association had also called upon all the members to refrain from participating in any activities related to the implementation of the NEP until it is formally approved by all concerned.
