Plantation drive at BSF Umpling
SHILLLONG, Aug 1: More than 500 saplings of different plants were planted by officials of BSF Meghalaya during a plantation drive at its campus in Umpling on Monday. The schoolchildren of BSF Senior Secondary School and BSF retirees actively participated in the drive, which was inaugurated by IG BSF Meghalaya Pradip Kumar. Kumar also flagged off an awareness rally to promote plantation and protection of trees. This initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from personnel of all ranks and their family members, who jointly planted hundreds of saplings of diverse tree species. The planting efforts extended beyond BSF Shillong and reached to BOPs along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Workshop for Gram Sevaks
SHILLONG, Aug 1: A one-day workshop for transforming of Gram Sevaks/Sevikas was conducted by the Community and Rural Development, Meghalaya in collaboration with the State Institute of Rural Development, (SIRD) at Nongsder on Tuesday. The main objective of the workshop is to identify a roadmap in strengthening the Gram Sevaks and Sevikas of the state. Addressing the gathering, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary FR Kharkongor, praised the AMGSSA for initiating the capacity building workshop. According to him Gram Sevaks and Sevikas are the most important building blocks of development by comparing them with ‘living root-bridges between the government and the people’. He emphasized on the need to boost development in rural areas.About 100 Gram Sevaks and Gram Sevikas from Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills region participated in the workshop and provided valuable insights to strengthen Gram Sevaks and Sevikas at the same time highlighting,the challenges faced by them through group discussions.
Yuva Utsav in WKH
NONGSTOIN, Aug 1: A district-level Yuva Utsav on the theme ‘Panch Pran’ (or the five fundamentals of Amrit Kaal) was organised by the West Khasi Hills District unit of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan at St Francis D’ Assisi College, Siejlieh Nongstoin, on Tuesday, wherein youths from different schools and colleges of the district participated.Deputy Commissioner in-charge of West Khasi Hills, HK Thabah, who was the chief guest, inaugurated the programme. The main components of this year’s competition include Young Artists Talent Hunt (Painting), Young Writers Talent Hunt (Poem), Photography Talent Hunt, Declamation Talent Hunt and Cultural Festivals (Group Events). Winners from the district level will get a chance to participate at the state level.
