Passenger train derails in New York City, 13 injured

Shillong, August 4: At least 13 people sustained injuries after a Long Island Rail Road train derailed in New York City’s Queens borough. The incident occurred on Thursday around 11:12 a.m. east of Jamaica Station at 175th Street and 95th Avenue. All eight cars of the train derailed, with passengers suffering leg and back injuries, fortunately, none critical.

As per IANS, authorities swiftly responded, with firefighters transferring passengers to a rescue train via a small platform. New York Governor Kathy Hochul assured that their top priority is the safety of passengers and railroad workers, aiming to resume train services as soon as possible.

The cause of the derailment remains unknown, and MTA officials anticipate service disruptions to persist until Friday morning.
