SHILLONG, Aug 5: Appalled by the ongoing turmoil in Manipur, Leader of Opposition in Meghalaya, Ronnie V Lyngdoh has hit out at the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for allegedly not making any effort to quell the proliferating incidents of violence in neighbouring Manipur.
The LO on Saturday slammed the NDA for allegedly propagating communal and religious propaganda for the sake of winning elections.
“We have witnessed that there is no effort on the part of the BJP government at the Centre to resolve the prevailing situation in Manipur. What is sad is that the situation continues to remain tense even after over three months,” Lyngdoh, who is also the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, told reporters here.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is yet to visit Manipur to assess the situation by himself, even as he added that this raises eyebrows.
According to Lyngdoh, the Prime Minister could have gone and instilled a sense of confidence among the citizens of Manipur that the central government is with them.
The CLP leader was of the opinion that a strong directive from the Centre should be issued to the Manipur government to do whatever they can to stop the violence.
“All the people who were responsible for the violence should be arrested,” the Opposition leader said.
On the other hand, he cautioned the people of the Northeastern region not to fall for the ‘divisive politics’ of the saffron party.
“We will not want a Manipur like situation to replicate in any of the states of the Northeast,” the CLP leader added.
