SHILLONG, Aug 6: The state BJP leadership on Sunday said it is not aware of the plan of its party leader, Himalaya Muktan Shangpliang to join the National People’s Party.
“Nothing official has been communicated to us. I have read media reports on the claim of Shangpliang that there is a move to join the NPP,” state BJP president, Ernest Mawrie said.
Asked if Shangpliang has stopped visiting the party office, Mawrie said he had expressed his inability to attend at least two programmes of the party as he was preoccupied with meetings of the Education Department.
Shangpliang, who was appointed the adviser of the Education Department, was not available for his comment.
Mawrie said the BJP is yet to discuss the possibility of projecting former IPS officer, M. Kharkrang as the party candidate from the Shillong seat for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The state BJP chief, however, said the party’s preparation for the general elections next year would be discussed at the Lok Sabha Pravas Yojana meeting in Guwahati on August 9. All the state presidents of the party in the Northeast are expected to attend the meeting.
He said the party would first conduct a survey before projecting anyone as a BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha polls. “We have not yet discussed names for the Shillong and the Tura parliamentary seats,” he added.
