Shillong, August 8: The Health Ministry of Sri Lanka revealed a concerning surge in dengue cases, with more than 58,000 reported cases and 38 fatalities this year, as reported on Tuesday.
Notably, around 50 percent of these cases originated from the western province, as stated by the Xinhua news agency.
As per IANS, the Ministry has taken action by identifying 47 high-risk zones within the country to address the situation.
In comparison, last year witnessed over 76,000 cases of dengue in Sri Lanka, according to official records.
