Shillong, August 9: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has recognized that the country’s counteroffensive against Russia is proceeding at a slower pace than anticipated.
Zelensky’s comments were featured in a video released by his office following a meeting with Latin American media outlets. He explained that various challenges, including the presence of mines, technical difficulties, and delays in certain areas, have contributed to the slower advancement.
Zelensky emphasized that the counteroffensive involves the Ukrainian army taking the initiative to attack rather than retreating.
Zelensky expressed the difficulty of the prolonged conflict and the challenges posed by equipment shortages. He noted that while both sides are experiencing the toll of the conflict, there is a sense of fatigue among Ukrainians and fear among Russians.
The main obstacle facing Ukrainian forces is the formidable defensive lines established by Russia in the eastern and southern regions of Ukraine. These defensive positions, characterized by numerous mines and intricate trench networks, continue to pose a significant challenge for Ukrainian advancement.
