Shillong, August 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to respond to the ongoing no-confidence motion debate, brought forth by the Opposition against his government, at 4 pm on Thursday.

The debate, centered on the Manipur violence, has sparked fierce exchanges in the Lok Sabha over the past two days.

As per India Today the debate was initiated by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, who asserted that the Opposition had been compelled to bring the no-confidence motion to break the silence of PM Modi on the Manipur issue.

The contentious topic has led to disruptions in parliamentary proceedings since the start of the Monsoon session.

Rahul Gandhi, resuming his role as an MP, launched a strong critique of the BJP government, accusing it of dividing Manipur. This led to a heated exchange with BJP members, including an incident involving gestures and complaints from women BJP MPs.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused the Congress of politicizing the Manipur violence and emphasized the need for constructive discussion instead.

PM Modi’s response to the debate will be followed by a vote, with the BJP expected to secure the no-confidence motion due to its substantial majority in the Lok Sabha.
