Shillong, August 10: A man suspected of issuing threats against President Joe Biden prior to his visit to Utah was fatally shot during an FBI raid.
The operation took place in Provo, near Salt Lake City, where agents were serving an arrest warrant for Craig Robertson. The incident unfolded just hours before the President’s scheduled visit, BBC reported.
Upon attempting to apprehend Robertson, he reportedly aimed a firearm at the FBI agents, leading to his shooting. The FBI has not disclosed further details regarding the event.
Craig Robertson was facing federal charges, including threats against the President and intimidation of federal law enforcement officers. The investigation revealed that Robertson possessed firearms, including a sniper rifle.
Some of the threats were directed at Biden’s Utah visit, with one message mentioning a sniper rifle. The US Secret Service, responsible for protecting government officials, including the President, acknowledged the FBI’s investigation into the threats.
Additionally, Robertson had posted online threats against various other individuals, including Attorney General Merrick Garland, Vice President Kamala Harris, New York State Attorney General Letitia James, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
