SHILLONG, Aug 10: Governor Phagu Chauhan on Thursday participated in the 3rd anniversary celebration of Shillong All Faith Forum (SAFF) as their chief guest. The celebrations were held at Bianchi Memorial Hall, Lachumiere, where all faith leaders, community members, and distinguished guests converged to underscore the importance of unity, understanding and environmental responsibility. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor lauded the event’s theme, which was ‘Peace, Harmony, and Environment,’ and highlighted the intrinsic connection between divinity and humanity with peace and harmony at its core. Citing India’s theme for its G20 Presidency — ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (One Earth – One Family – One Future — the Governor commended the formation of organisations such as the SAFF and its objective to fearlessly champion values of peace, justice, and respect for human life. Pointing out the need for environmental consciousness, Governor Chauhan likened Earth as a mother and emphasised the significance of treating her with affection and regard. He then urged faith leaders to lead the way in advocating for peace, harmony, and a collective reverence for the environment. Also, songs and dances performed by different religious groups also left a lasting impression at the programme.
