Conference
The Meghalaya Model United Nations will be conducting the 4th Shillong Conference from Friday to Sunday at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong. The opening plenary session will be held on Friday, in which Metbah Lyngdoh, MLA and Chairman of Meghalaya State Planning Board, will be the chief guest. The closing plenary session will be held on Sunday. Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma will be the chief guest of the session.
Dry day
The District Magistrate of West Jaintia Hills has declared ‘Dry Day’ in the entire district on August 15 on account of Independence Day. All IMFL licensed premises (wholesale and retail sale), bars, canteens, country shops including outstills will remain closed on the said date, a statement issued here said.
Condemnation
The Urdu Society of India has condemned the ethnic violence in Manipur, wherein hundreds of lives have been lost, many displaced, modesty of women outraged and many places of worship burnt. The society has urged the Manipur government to come up with a solution to this crisis and bring harmony in the state.
