SHILLONG, Aug 12: UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh on Saturday said that veteran politician Bindo Lanong is still very much a member of the party.
“He (Lanong) is still part and parcel of the party even though he is no longer elected to hold any important position,” Lyngdoh told reporters after being elected as the party president for the second term during the general council meeting which was held at the party office on Saturday.
He further clarified that the party has given the responsibility to the nomination committee to recommend the names of the party leaders who will be elected to the various positions in the Central Executive Committee (CEC). It may be mentioned that Lanong, a veteran politician, was one of the founding members of the UDP.
However, the relationship between Lanong and UDP leadership deteriorated after he decided to contest from Nongkrem seat in this year’s Assembly polls against party nominee and former MLA, Lambor Malngiang.
Lanong had contested as an independent candidate.
Interestingly, the UDP allowed Lanong to remain as the nominated MDC in the KHADC despite his decision to go against the party leadership.
