Shillong, August 12: A total of 29 medical officers from Meghalaya were honoured at Kasturba Gandhi Hospital, Chennai after they successfully completed a 6-month specialised training in Comprehensive Emergency Obstetrics Care (CEmOC), Ultrasonography, and Life Saving Anaesthetic Skills.
The valedictory ceremony was jointly organised by the government of Meghalaya and Tamil Nadu, recently. The function was graced by Ampareen Lyngdoh and Ma Subramanian, Health Ministers of Meghalaya and Tamil Nadu respectively.
Facilitated through a Memorandum of Understanding between the two states inked in September 2022, the collaborative initiative exemplifies the spirit of partnership and commitment to healthcare advancement.
State Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said, “This initiative emerged from the recognition that Community Health Centres in the state are to be converted to first referral units, providing quality healthcare services to the citizens of Meghalaya. The training of 29 dedicated doctors in Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric Care (CEmOC), Ultrasonography, and Life Saving Anaesthetic Skills was a strategic step to offer specialised care, promote institutional deliveries, encourage health-seeking behaviour, and ultimately enhance the health indicators. The partnership was made possible through the generous support of Tamil Nadu, a state renowned for its commendable healthcare standards.”
