Shillong, August 16: The Union Cabinet has given the green light to multiple railway projects costing Rs 32,500 crore. These initiatives will extend the rail network by 2,339 km, benefiting Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Telangana, Odisha, and Gujarat.
The projects involve upgrading and expanding existing rail lines, boosting capacity for 120 million tonnes of cargo and facilitating migrant worker and student travel, revealed Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
As per IANS, fully funded by the Central government, these projects will connect key industrial and commercial hubs. The expansions will enhance line capacity, streamline train operations, alleviate congestion, and enhance ease of travel and transportation. Here are the project details:
Doubling of Gorakhpur Cantonment (Valmiki Nagar section) in Uttar Pradesh (89.264 km) and Bihar (6.676 km, West Champaran).
Doubling of Guntur-Bibinagar section in Andhra Pradesh (1 km, Guntur) and Telangana (139 km, Nalgonda, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri).
Doubling of Chopan-Chunar section in Uttar Pradesh (101.58 km, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra).
Doubling between Mudkhed-Medchal and Mahbubnagar-Dhone section in Maharashtra (49.15 km, Nanded), Telangana (294.82 km, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Medak, Wanaparthy, Jogulamba, Medchal-Malkajgiri), and Andhra Pradesh (73.91 km, Mahbubnagar, Kurnool, Dhone).
Quadrupling between Samakhiali and Gandhidham in Gujarat (53 km, Kutch).
Third line between Nergundi-Barang and Khudra Road-Vizianagaram in Odisha (184 km, Bhadrak, Jaipur, Khordha, Cuttack, Ganjam) and Andhra Pradesh (201 km, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam).
