Heavy rains and landslides claim 81 lives in Himachal and Uttarakhand

Shillong, August 17: Incessant rainfall and landslides have led to a tragic toll of 81 lives in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

As per news agency PTI, rescue operations are underway to save the injured and recover bodies from collapsed houses. The weather forecast predicts further heavy rainfall in the affected regions.

The death count in rain-battered Himachal Pradesh has risen to 71, with more bodies being discovered. In total, 214 individuals have lost their lives due to rain-related incidents in the state since the monsoon’s onset on June 24.

Landslides have ravaged multiple districts, including Shimla, impacting areas like Summer Hill, Fagli, and Krishna Nagar.

Rescue efforts continue with the aid of Air Force helicopters, Army personnel, and NDRF teams. The region has already witnessed record-breaking rainfall this year, surpassing historical averages and causing widespread devastation.”
