Shillong, August 18: The decision of the Congress-led Karnataka government to halt funding for temple renovation and development has triggered backlash from Hindu groups and the BJP.

As per IANS, an order from the state’s Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department, applicable to all District Commissioners, mandates that funds will be suspended unless temple renovation work is undertaken. Additionally, if 50% of funds’ administrative approval is granted, it too will be withheld. Proposed administrative approvals are also subject to withholding.

Former Minister for Muzrai and Waqf, BJP MLA Shahikala Jolle, criticized the move, asserting that the government should prioritize temple preservation and development. She emphasized the importance of temples in Indian culture and called for the release of previously allocated funds.
