Shillong, Aug 18: The KSU has underscored the need to end the current impasse over the implementation of the NEP in the best interest of the student community in the State.
While speaking to reporters after meeting NEHU Vice Chancellor, Prabha Shankar Shukla here on Friday, KSU assistant secretary, Reuben Najiar said that the students are suffering due to the standoff between the MCTA and the university.
“We have got the copy of the minutes of the meeting where the majority of the college principals had agreed to implement the NEP. But the College teachers are not ready to cooperate with this decision. Finally, it is the students who have to bear the brunt,” Najiar said.
He said that they are aware about discrepancies which are there in the implementation of the NEP since there is a problem in the syllabus, study materials for the students are not available and till now there are no proper guidelines from the university.
“We are also aware that there are colleges who are not yet ready,” KSU assistant secretary said.
Despite taking all these into account, he said that it was important for the Vice Chancellor to resolve the various grievances raised by the college teachers.
“We have impressed upon the VC that any concern raised by the teachers should be rectified. The egos of the university and the various stakeholders should not hamper the students,” Najiar said.
The KSU assistant secretary said that the VC has assured them that he was ready to meet any group who are opposed to this move to implement the NEP.
Responding to a query, Najiar said that they had mentioned to the VC about his statement that he cannot invite the MCTA for a discussion since they do not fall under his jurisdiction.
“But VC told us that this does not mean that college teachers cannot come to meet him to discuss the difficulties and problems on the implementation of the NEP,” KSU assistant secretary said.
Meanwhile, he said that they would also like to appeal to the state government to convene the meeting between the MCTA and university to resolve all the grievances of the college teachers amicably.
Najiar insisted that there must be an end this present stalemate since first semester students are attending classes but there are no teachers.
It may be mentioned that the KSU is likely to meet Education Minister, Rakkam A. Sangma to request him for convening of the meeting of the MCTA, university and other stakeholders to put an end to the current stalemate.
