New rural haat in SGH

TURA, Aug 17: Rongchekgre Rural Haat was on Thursday inaugurated by South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, S Awasthi. The project was funded by the National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development (NABARD) in convergence with MGNREGA and implemented under Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society (MSRLS) Baghmara.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC spoke about the benefits of opening a rural haat.
He expressed appreciation towards everyone involved in the successful completion of the rural haat. He stressed on the importance of maintaining the basic hygiene at the haat and to dispose of the waste products in a proper designated area.
The inauguration took place in the presence of P.R.Marak Project Director DRDA, Shri J.N.Sangma BDO Baghmara, Shri Khelchandra Chongtham DDM NABARD South Garo Hills, Dr Shanlang Lyngdoh, Chief Operating Officer Livelihood Shillong, and others.
NABARD DDM, Kelchandra Chongtham, said that the rural haat being constructed under the financial assistance from NABARD is basically meant to ensure the feasible market facilities to the Rural people ànd to facilitate them to have proper selling place to sell their agro- horti, handicrafts products.
Others who also spoke during the inauguration included Chief Operating Officer Livelihood Shillong, Shanlang Lyngdoh, land donor for haat construction Pentila D Sangma and the Nokma of Rongchekgre.
