BSF seize 220 bottles of Phensedyl from Bangladesh border

Shillong, August 19: Acting on a tip-off, troops of 4 Bn BSF based in Meghalaya seized 220 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup from the international border of East Khasi Hills district of the state while being smuggled from India to Bangladesh. The seized Phensedyl were further handed over to concerned authority for further necessary action.

It is a codeine-based cough syrup used as a substitute for liquor, which is strictly prohibited in the neighboring Bangladesh. Since January 2023, BSF Meghalaya seized more than 1300 bottles of Phensedyl while being crossed through international border, according to a Press release
